Dusk settled over the orange and red land known as Durotar. The harsh colors of the ground faded as the light of the sun rolled under the horizon, slowly being softened by the warm glow of the twin moons. A rolling sound of artificial thunder bounced off the dark walls of a canyon, echoing into the nooks and crags like fanfare calling attention to royalty. A lone mechano-hog rounded a rocky corner, piloted by a white haired blood elf, and shifted into a higher gear. The sound of the engine flared, as the machine made its way up a small incline near the main path, heading for higher ground over the canyon road below. Losing contact with the ground, the bike’s tires spun freely in the air for a moment before the full weight of the machine came down upon the shocks with a solid thump. The collapsible sidecar, jostled against its moorings with a loud rattle, and the driver let out a deep slow breath. He was pleased.

Nihil smiled as he pushed his foot down onto the clutch and shifted gears, eyeing the flat and almost table like outgrowth of rocks ahead of him along the sides of the canyon road. He glanced to his left, looking down into the canyon for any signs of activity but did not see any. Few people liked to travel the canyons at night, preferring to avoid the harpy patrols that sometimes took flight in the area. Nihil shook his head a bit, and ran a hand through his goatee thinking about the last time he’d had a run in with such a patrol and the mess he had made. Slowing the bike down, he pulled up to the edge of the rock he was on and took a look around.

A lazy smoke cloud drifted into the sky in the distance behind him, marking the small settlement of Razor Hill. He had come from further beyond the outpost already, hailing from the small Darkspear village of Sen’Jin. An old friend had decided to move back to that area, and Nihil had slipped out that way to pay the old troll mage a visit. After a day of stories about the “good old days” and more than a couple drinks, he had set his sights on making it back to Orgrimmar to rest for the night before moving along to parts unknown. Tugging the clutch with his foot, Nihil shut the mechano-hog off and leaned a little to the left where the kickstand automatically extended itself. The rumble of the engine faded off into the dusk.

He stretched his right arm back and unfastened the buttons on one of the bike’s storage bags. He pulled out a smaller satchel of fragrant enchanted tobacco with papers. Pushing in a small knob on the console of the mechano-hog, he cleared his throat and laid out a paper and quickly sprinkled out the dried leaf. Nimble fingers made quick work, and rolled a cigarette that he licked closed and placed between his lips. The knob on the console popped itself back out, and he raised the red glowing end to his face lighting his fix. He inhaled deeply, felt the smoke travel down into his chest and the slight tingle of magic from the Infinite Dust that was used to cure this blend move into his bloodstream.

Nihil’s long ears twitched, catching an echoing sound coming from further up the canyon road. He exhaled a dark blue smoke, and set the cigarette into the corner of his mouth while both feet planted into the ground. He stood up from the bike and narrowed his eyes to catch a glimpse of the source. Someone was banging on something with hammers by the sound of things, though he could not say where at this point. Reaching up, he grabbed the cig and flicked it lightly removing the scant bit of ash at the end before drawing in another toke and restarted the bike. The mechano-hog’s engine turned over, and the kickstand pulled itself back in as Nihil dropped the machine into gear to move further down the canyon top in search of that noise.

He didn’t have to travel very long before his keen eyes caught sight of where the noise was coming from. Southwest of the gates of Orgrimmar a small team of goblin workers were building what looked to be a carnival booth around some tents that were half erected. Nihil took another pull on the cigarette, and shifted his weight on the bike. A fast push of the engine and the machine went airborne off the ledge of the canyon. His mind did not register the noisy impact of the bike, having heard it so many times before; he veered off the canyon road over towards the construction site.

As the bike rumbled closer one of the burly goblins observing the work turned and started to walk towards Nihil holding his hands up. The goblin was wearing what looked to be a hard hat, and had some papers stuffed into his belt line. Nihil slowed the bike down, and pulled up beside the goblin killing the engine quickly.

“Hey friend, the festival hasn’t started yet,” the goblin jerked a thumb back towards the half completed booth and tents. “Why don’t you come back in the morning for the opening ceremonies like everyone else?”

Nihil looked the goblin over for a moment and took another pull from his smoke, “Festival? What festival?” blue smoke rolled from his lips as he spoke.

The goblin foreman waved his hand in front of his face subconsciously in an attempt to clear smoke that had yet to reach his face. “Brewfest my boy! The finest excuse to get smashed and eat lots of great products from the Smokywood Pastures Company.” The goblin smiled a razor grin that so many of his race possessed when they spoke of a future profit sure to come.

“I wasn’t aware there was such a festival,” Nihil dropped the cigarette into the rust colored earth and stamped it out with a boot.

“What the hell boy, where have you been that you haven’t heard of Brewfest?” the goblin laughed a little.

“Up north with the Crusade,” Nihil’s voice was even, it showed no sign of humor that the goblin seemed to possess.

The goblin foreman shook his head and gave Nihil’s arm a pat in a rushed, but friendly gesture, “Why don’t you come on back tomorrow morning then? Get yourself a strong drink or five for everything you’ve been doing up there. Maybe even drink a few more beyond that to insulate against the cold on your next trip?”

Nihil nodded his head in thanks towards the goblin foreman, but did not speak. The goblin foreman turned and walked back towards the construction, saying something in his native tongue to the workers that Nihil couldn’t understand. Nihil pushed the mechano-hog back a little with his feet and restarted the engine. The sight of the signal fires and shadows of the night watch guards outside the city gates moved in the distance ahead. The bike turned, the engine revved up and he was back on the road that lead into Orgrimmar.

*** Nihil pushed an old wooden door open with a loud creak. Over one shoulder he hefted a large backpack, and on the other side he carried a two handed sword. He gave his accommodations a quick look over, and tossed his travel backpack onto the floor with an heavy clank from the armor inside. The floor was lined with furs, covering up cold flat stone. An old wooden bed with a mattress made of hay and wrapped in soft furs and hides with nary a pillow in sight. The walls were stone and wood, sturdy and strong and hopefully thick enough to cover up any sounds of drunken revelry from the bar patrons below. Kicking the door closed with a foot he rubbed the back of his neck with a slight grumble. He hefted the two handed sword and set it onto a sturdy sword rest that had been built into the wall quite some time ago by the look of the nicks from various blades that had rested there.

Nihil took a step back and smiled a little, amused by the Spartan signs of orcish hospitality. This was not his first time staying at this inn, yet still he was amused at how everything was set up. His moment of quiet recollection was broken however, by a knock at the door. He turned and opened the door to see a young orc boy perhaps no older than maybe twelve seasons looking up at him.

“Mr. Nihil sir?” The young orc asked a little intimidated.

“That’s me. What can I do for you, youngling?” Nihil pushed the door open and crossed his arms over his chest.

The young orc swallowed, “I was known to let you told that…I mean told you let you know that your dinner and the hot bath you requested will be ready in fifteen minutes.”

Nihil knew why this young orc was so nervous already. He’d never spoken to a Blood Elf, let alone one that happened to be a Blood Knight. “Good, thank you. Could you make sure that they bring a bottle of port with my meal as well?” He paused for a moment, and tilted his head and an angle looking at the young orc.

“Y-yes?” the young orc stammered out.

“My squire should be arriving soon, and he’s about your age, could you make sure that he is shown to my room here and that he also gets some dinner?”

“Oh…sure,” the young orc turned to walk away.

Nihil smiled and whistled sharply. The young orc turned around just in time to see a gold coin fly through the air straight at his chest. The youngling grasped the coin in both hands with wide eyes. He smiled brightly back towards Nihil, and ran down the hallway quickly.

“Kids,” Nihil shook his head and stepped back into his room and shut the door behind him.

Nihil took another glance around the room and sat down on the edge of the bed. He rolled his shoulders back, and took in a deep breath then closed his eyes. His palms rested upturned on top of his knees, his body stock still as he began to meditate. His mind focused on the power that resided within him. Once stolen, the power of the light was given freely to his kind yet he remained vigilant in communion with it. Inhale, exhale, focus. He felt the tingle, a warm surge that washed across his body from the top of his head all the way to his toes. The power of the light shined brightly behind his eyes. The tips of his fingers began to glow with a familiar golden light that he could see even with his eyes shut. He began to channel the light into his hands, preparing to cast a simple heal upon himself when there was a loud knock at his door.

He frowned and opened his eyes grumbling softly, “Interrupted…what else is new?” The warm feeling ebbed away, and the glow from his hands faded into nothing.

He stood up from his perch on the edge of the bed and turned to open the door. A sudden rush of movement as the door swung open caught him by surprise and his shoulders thumped against the solid old door. He began to protest, but warm lips met his own and a strong set of hands gripped his chest.

Nihil took stock of what had just happened so quickly. In his doorway stood a troll female, with short cropped grayish hair and an ample bosom that barely fit in a barmaids dress. Her light blue skin and scent of wildflowers triggered memory within Nihil and he brought his arms up to wrap around the lower back of the woman. He tilted his head, mindful of the small tusks and returned the kiss no longer surprised. “Dat was the plan, but papa fell ill and I be the only one who was around to take care of him. He got better, but I jus decided that working for the money here a lil while longer may not hurt.” Jooki pushed back a little from their embrace, mindful of the fact that they stood in an open doorway for the anyone to see. She gave him a quick glance, and patted his chest. “Come on, I’ve got your dinner and a hot bath waiting.”

“Far be it from me to keep my dinner or a lady waiting,” Nihil laughed and stepped out of his room to follow Jooki. He locked the door quickly, and followed behind her to where everything had been prepared for him.

“Nothing’s changed,” Nihil said with a look over the room that had been made ready for him. In the center of the room sat a large stone carved tub filled to nearly the brim with steaming hot water. An enchanted device, he noted, which would keep the water poured within it at whatever temperature desired. Along the back wall was a separator, leading to what he knew to be storage for soaps and other things needed for such a large bath room. His eyes fell towards a large wooden table near the steaming tub. His dinner sat on an earthenware platter and wafted a rich scent into the room: Roasted Pork loin, fresh wheat bread, pungent cheese from the dwarves, grapes and dates and a bottle of velvety port wine.

He smiled, and stepped into the room with Jooki behind him. Practiced hands found the bottle of wine, and he quickly uncorked it and poured a glass for himself. He worked fast, cutting and prepping all aspects of his dinner onto a smaller plate made of the same material as the platters to rest beside the stone tub.

Jooki shook her head and walked behind the separator. She disappeared quickly into the back in search of soap and fresh towels for her guest.

He wasted no time in her absence, and stripped down quickly from his traveling clothes until he was completely nude. He bundled his clothing up and tossed it to the side of the room to be picked up later. For now, his focus was on the water and his stomach which growled loudly. Gently, he stepped into the large tub and bit back a hiss at the temperature of the water which was hotter than he had anticipated. He let out a breath and slid his body into the water in a slow manner. His lightly tanned skin turned a shade of red from the heat of the water as he submerged himself. Satisfied, his hand slid over and grabbed the plate for his dinner.

Nihil closed his eyes and took a bite of his dinner. A warm slice of the wheat bread, topped with a that pungent cheese and a carved slice of pork went past his lips greedily. That gobbled down so easily, he reached for the glass of port and followed it by a long sip. He licked his lips, and leaned back into the hot water of his bath. Small tendrils of steam rose from the surface of the water as his arms and torso dispersed their stillness. A low moan escaped his throat as he began to soak. He had to admit to himself that this was a guilty pleasure. Here he sat in the nude, bathing and eating, enjoying the way the hot water seemed to steal away the aches and stiffness from his now reddened flesh. Life was not bad. From behind him, he heard a small laugh from his companion Jooki.

Nihil turned to say something to Jooki, but he found that he was alone in the tub. “Jooki?”

“Ya mon, still here,” Jooki replied as she walked around from the separator at the back of the room dressed once again. “That racket gonna bring people lookin’ up here. We be havin’ to put our little fun on hold.”

Nihil looked Jooki over and rubbed his forehead in frustration. Jooki walked past him and gave his arm a caress before walking out of the room and his sight. Nihil stepped from the tub, and quickly dried himself off. He slipped back into his clothes, and stepped into the hallway to the unconscious body of his squire.

“Fucking kids,” Nihil sighed and picked the young orc up under one arm as he headed back to his room.
